Andrew is a retired architect and urban planner who has always had a creative eye. He enjoyed drawing earlier in life and looked upon his retirement as an opportunity to do lots of things that he never had time for while working. Andrew heard about a printmaking course at Falmouth University and fell in love with etching and aquatint.
After he developed his printmaking skills at the studio of John Howard in Penryn Andrew built an art studio in his garden during the COVID-19 lockdown.
His prints aim to explore familiar locations, usually West Cornwall and Derbyshire, from unusual and striking viewpoints. They have been exhibited at Falmouth Poly, Penlee House, Jupiter Gallery and the Print in Action Festival.
He started thinking more seriously about selling his prints and approached a local art gallery in Newlyn who asked if he had a website for them to view his work.
He was interested in what work would go in to making his own website and was recommended DPN’s WordPress website development course by a friend who had attended previously.
Andrew was confident in his ability and eager to learn how to create his own website. The remote delivery of the course was a positive to Andrew as it meant that he would not need to travel, and as a confident computer user there were no issues with using the video conferencing technology. The only barrier that Andrew faced was that he did not have any prior website design experience.
A website for a lifetime of work
Andrew now has a fully functioning website that promotes the various prints that he has created. With his website up and running, Andrew can now approach local art galleries to promote his printmaking work to be displayed and sold locally.
An additional benefit of the website is that it gave Andrew the chance to review all his old drawings from over the years and showcase a variety of pieces to prospective galleries/buyers while also acting as an archive and memory wall for his creative passions.
